It might have taken a whole six years of delayed efforts to get the ball rolling on R. Kelly’s sex tape with a minor, jury selection is finally set to begin Friday.
As we can all recall, the Grammy-winning R&B is on trial over child pornography charges, prompted by a videotape allegedly showing Kelly having sex with a girl as young as 13.
Prosecutors, though, are now faced with a new challenge because the alleged victim, now 23, says it wasn’t her. And get this…Kelly’s attorneys haven’t admitted it’s Kelly in the video either. What a circus!
Very logical. Let’s wait 6 years for this shenanigan to hit the courts, and then say, “Ohh yah, btw, that wasn’t me. whoopsies!”
Michael Helfand, a Chicago attorney, says,
How is there not reasonable doubt when the two people say it’s not them?
The 41-year-old Kelly faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. But the rapper has anticipated this moment over the years and is glad the wait is over.
His spokesman Allan Mayer said,
Every waking moment, he’s always had this hanging over his head. He’s confident that when all the evidence comes out he’ll be shown not to be guilty of any crime.
