On Monday, Salma Hayek stopped by “Oprah” to talk about a tetanus vaccine program from UNICEF.
Oprah, however, took advantage of the fact that she was there to ask her about giving birth to daughter Valentina, which happened last September.
When Oprah asked Salma how hard was for her to get back into shape, Salma replied,
Yes, and I’m still working on it. I gained alot of weight, you know, I had gestational diabetes. The pregnancy was really difficult for me, and I thought, you know, as soon as this baby is out I’m just gonna lose all the weight cause I’m gonna breastfeed and everybody tells you that if you breastfeed it’s gonna come out [really fast].
It’s a lie! It’s not true! I’m going to say something. Except for a couple of exceptions, the only reason people lose weight like that when they’re breastfeeding. It’s that they’re not eating and they’re breastfeeding. And that’s not good for the baby.

At least someone told us the damn truth! Love Salma!
Although I really appreciate a celebrity finally talking about life after their baby with some honesty, what she said is only partially true.
A lot of the weight loss depends on the mom. Some women breastfeed and still eat and do lose the weight quickly, while others don’t. Just like women who don’t breastfeed.
The main difference is that when you breastfeed there will be a point where you’ll stop losing weight because your body is trying to store a certain amount of weight on it for the production of breastmilk.
