Alexis Bledel and America Ferrera came out to Vegas on Wednesday night for the Warner Bros. Pictures presents “The Big Picture ‘08″ during ShoWest 2008.

What’s funny about these two is that Alexis speaks fluent Spanish even though she looks 100% American, and America, who clearly looks Latina, doesn’t speak any Spanish.

Why do people assume she and other hispanics must speak spanish because they’re hispanic…she was born in America..
I was born in America and Spanish is my FIRST language. SO it’s safe to “assume” that people of Spanish decent born in America do speak spanish. However, I don’t think it’s wrong if they don’t. My nephew does not. Though I personally will teach my kids Spanish first.

actually , America does speak spanish. One of her next movies, Towards Darkness (hacia la oscuridad) which will be released on march 23, is in Spanish. Not only does she star in the movie (yes, speaking spanish) but she also helped produce it.
you can also find a video on youtube , of the press conference at the golden globes, the year that she won, she answers some questions in spanish.
She used to not be as fluent as Alexis, whose parents are from Argentina, but her spanish has been getting better. She hired a dialect teacher to get the right Colombian accent on Towards Darkness.

i am fully aware that latinos come in all shades and colors. all i am saying is that in the world of tv & film, alexis will NEVER play a latina, even if her background is such…why? well because she looks 100% Caucasian. look at all the roles she’s done in her career and you will see a pattern.

actually America totally speaks spanish. She did Real Women have Curves and spoke spanish alot. And I have heard in interviews w’ Spanish stations so I don’t know where you got that doesn’t speak Spanish a la JLo.
Latino’s come in all shades and colors. People think I’m caucasian because of my white-colored skin, but i’m really not white. lol……
Its a beautiful thing that us Latinos/Hispanics come in all shapes and colors, but sometimes, as in Alexis case it can be used against you. I myself am a very pale individual with dark eyes and dark hair (of Mexican descent), yet according to most, my “features” do not look ethnic enough to appear Mexican/Hispanic (I am often confused for caucasian) but they are not caucasian enough (light hair/light eyes) to blend in completely as a caucasian!
One thing for sure America Ferrara looks like a tranny operation gone bad next to alexis.
