Rolling Stone Reviews Mariah Carey’s New Album

emc.jpg

Here’s what Rolling Stone had to say:

At a private listening party hosted by L.A. Reid, Rolling Stone recently got a chance to check out Mariah Carey’s eleventh studio album, the follow-up to 2005’s blockbuster The Emancipation of Mimi.

Due April 15th, E=MC² jumps from hip-hop-flavored jams like the Young Jeezy-assisted “Side Effects” to bright, mega-catchy stuff like the disco “That Chick.” The album also tosses in a couple of big-voiced ballads (”Bye Bye,” a piano-based song about losing someone close to you) and beats from big-name producers like Jermaine Dupri, Will.i.am and Scott Storch. In a notable departure from earlier albums, Carey sings in a lighter, less showy voice than we’re used to on a few tracks, including lead single “Touch My Body.” A horny jam about a “secret rendezvous,” the single was co-written by Tricky Stewart and The-Dream, the team that co-penned Rihanna’s “Umbrella.”

Nate “Danja” Hills, who produced “Migrate” (which features T-Pain), tells RS that on that track Carey “definitely opens up towards the end of the song and shows what Mariah does. It’s a different array of her vocal range on this record, but she keeps it pretty mid-range and then toward the end she lets loose. She was singing in the room, and I was just blown away by how good it sounded without her even trying. It’s incredible, I see why she is who she is.”

Wow… I’m not really a big fan of hers, but she looks pretty hot in this picture. I wonder if the album is as good as they make it sound?

I doubt this album will be as good as the critics say- Mariah is one of those artists who industry insiders always cater to and kiss their asses, but in my opinion she hasn’t released a half-decent album since Daydream.

Something tells me that you’re an idiot because there is no way that Mariah’s upcoming album will flop. TMB has become an instant smash on radio, and the charts. The song has been receiving some of the most excellent reviews, and so has the album.

The only people who Mariah lets down musically are the people who aren’t really into her music. But for her true fans, she has never let us down musically. And I highly doubt critics are just telling her fans what we want to hear. I think her haters are just pissed because once again Mariah is gonna do it big in 08. She’s already had a mega succcessful comeback in 05 and no longer has nothing to prove. So Mariah will be just fine. And for the record, that’s an old picture. photoshopped or not, Mariah is absolutely stunning either way it goes. You can clearly see that when she’s just simply walking the streets. She is beautiful and doesn’t have to wear a crap load of make up whenever she steps out, looking like a whorish clown. ::CoughChristina:: cough::

I wouldn’t exactly call The Emancipation of Mimi “mega-successful.” Decently successful, sure… but there’s hardly any such thing as “mega-successful” in the music industry any more, for anybody.

I’d actually have to disagree and say that the Emancipation of Mimi was extremely successful. “We Belong Together” is arguably one of her top hits ever, and I’m sure we can all look forward to more out of this follow-up album.

The woman is a skank who uses payola to buy airplay to get to #1 on the Hot 100, its discusting. She would not have had 5 #1 singles if it were not for payola and for that the woman gets praised by her fans?

Excuse you. Who gave you the right to call anyone a skank? I don’t think that anyone should be critised by anyone who doesn’t even know how to spell disgusting. And by the way Mariah cannot pay to have her songs played. That makes no sense. It doesn’t work that way and even if so what does that have to do with people buying her albums? Obviously people are buying them because they like them. You are obviously just jealous because you know it’s the truth and that she is about to be on top once again.

Mariah is one of the few artists whos managed to last 2 decades..teom return to power but her best album was daydream where her vocal range was just out of this world…many ppl regard charmbracelet as a failure and even though it didnt do well on the charts..listen to the incredible ballads like I only wanted which proves the voice was still there

Hey boys & girls,

I have been a Mariah Carey fan since her first album in the 90’s. As an expert fan of hers and her music, she is very successful worldwide, selling over 150 million records. People are always saying she is finished. NOT! Everything she releases sell, even GLITTER, a movie soundtrack, sold over 4 million copies world wide and over 600,000 in US. (Check MariahDailyJournal.com for further statistics). Stop hating on her. Not anyone on this comment section has her fame, money, and reputation, which is good by the way. No, the old 90’s Vision of Love Mariah is not coming back anytime soon. This is because she never left. She just changed her music style, which has been POP and R&B, to mainly contemporary R&B/ Hip Hop (Vision of Love/Love Takes Time were R&B/Pop Hits). Get over it! Whatever she will release will definitely be a hit like always. It is the fans, buying her albums, and not the Media that causes her albums and records to sell and be successful. Like it or not, Mariah is here to stay. Get a life and find someone else to trash children.

Hello again children,

I forgot to mention. Someone stated that Mariah’s “Emancipation of Mimi” album was not a smash hit. Well statistically speaking, it sold over 5.8 million copies in the US alone, and over 10 million records worldwide. If this isn’t a smash, then what is? How many of you have album hits, have sold many record, and are rich? Even “American Idol” fans can not sing Mariah’s signature songs. Overall musical success is especially good for Mariah, since having been around for over 18 years. Even Madonna, Janet, Dolly Parton, and a string of other famous musical female and male artists have not lasted or sold nearly as many records. Again, hate on someone else, but leave Mariah alone, children (adults would not be so immature and unnecessarily cruel/rude).

Once again,

Just because you do not like an album, artist or genre style of music, does not mean it is bad. Music success is related to album and record sales, not mere opinion. Although Whitney Houston may worry, Mariah’s not since she makes millions of money off record sales, movie deals and perfume sales. Additionally, if you and all your hater friends do not buy any of her albums from this point on, Mariah is still going to sleep good. I suggest you all go to sleep and wake up with a more realistic and better attitude in life. Stop hating and start congratulating!

I’m a big fan of Mariah, And, I have to say. The single “Touch my body” is a good jam. I already know, that her next single will blow us all away. Just like the last album. “it’s like that” was good. But, “We belong together” was better. Then “Don’t forget about us” Blew me away. So all in all, Mariah is da bomb.

Mariah has proven her success as a comeback queen in 2005.Now she’s just enjoying the extension of that success that’s why she looks so vibrant and happy in all that she does now. And Touch My Body has been steadily climbing the Billboard charts only after 14 days of airplay. Way to go Mariah!

Madonna needs to be done away with that’s why she’s being tossed aside for the hall of fame, a pedestal for use-to-be-great ones who are now has-beens. But Mariah is as good as she started in the ’90s. She is the ultimate queen of music to this day, still a hitmaking diva unlike others who need to adopt a kid or needs to be crucified to attract attention. Mariah is the ultimate queen of music.

I am not a huge fan of either but judging by the first single. 4 minutes and Touch My Body. Madonna wins hands down. I agree Mariah is stuck in the 90’s, singing the same crap ballots. It would be nice to hear her sing something different. At least Madonna changes with the times. I think Madonna is smarter at marketing and her album will do much better worldwide.

I know right! Mariah is far more superior than Madonna. At least Mariah is beautiful and can sing. Madonna was just a slut. Mariah even holds a record for a certain note she can hit that others cannot. Tell me, why are you jealous of MC, but think Shitney Queers is a goddess?

Dear commenters,
After reading the ridiculous back-and-fourth junior high arguments about Mariah Carey, I must say I was laughing. Here is the bottom line: First and Foremost, you cannot possibly compare Madonna and Mariah. They are completely different on every aspect of artistic expression. Secondly, why waste time posting negative comments about Mariah if you dont like her? Personally, I love Mariah. She’s not someone I would choose to have a conversation with, but her music speaks for itself. It always strikes me as funny when people like us have the nerve to play “album critic” I mean, come on. Everyone has thier own taste in Music. Mariah IS going to hold the record for the most number one singles in history. Regardless, while we all sit back and criticize, Mariah is singing all the way to the bank.

this album is terrible - it’s horribly dated. it may have fit better in the early 90’s…but seriously, it’s bad. i’m sorry i wasted my money. really sorry. i wonder who paid off the reviewers.
