Is this suppose to be funny? That’s not his loved little pet, it’s a wild animal kept (obviously) in terrible conditions to entertain people. And check out the background of the pic, I don’t think that who ever took this photo hoped for it to end up in a celebrity blog as a joke. I’m finished with this blog.
Guilty dogs bark first. I find it strange that the person above me immediately interprets this picture as a joke. I do not see it that way. Not all of the pictures of the day are jokes. It is silly to even consider that. This picture is not to be interpretted as a joke, it is sad. It is sad that this man has a pet hyena, which is obviously viscious, to protect himself and whatever else he keeps it around for. I like the pictures of the day that remind other people who visit this blog of what it is like in other parts of the world. Thank You for bringing world realization into our minds.
Just to clear something out. When I look at the picture I don’t think it’s a joke, I find it sad just like you do. But when I looked at the text underneath the pic I felt like the photo was tried to turn into a joke. If that wasn’t the case, good, my mistake. The pic and the text do leave room for different interpretations which might be the intention here. Hence the question in my original post “is this SUPPOSE to be funny?”.
Would you keep female spotted hyena in terrible conditions? I doubt that. Also, it does not look like starving wild animal (hyena’s digestive system can allow it to eat skin, bones, horns, teeth, whatever).
Also, everything depends on attitude towards the animal in different cultures (it is Africa on the picture, I guess).
However, you are right guys. I am against all animals kept for entertaining purposes. Either a helper (e.g. guide), or a wild animal, nothing more.
This is a serious question: Do you consider a Zoo a place for entertainment or education? I am on both sides of the fence, but after reading your last sentence, I would like to know what you think.
I am rather against such form of entertainment (and I really was not fascinated by Zoos even as a child).
I really can not tell that I learned a lot out there as well. I doubt that knowing animal habits and behaviour is of use today.
Also, for instance, predators are not behaving naturally in Zoos. It is natural for them to hunt and kill freely.
So, Crista, I am against Zoos))
Did I change your attitude a bit? )
If I am to further convince you, I would tell you some scienficit point of view about a beauty being dictated by purpose, but I am afraid that it will be not suitable here. We can meet in ICQ or somewhere else if you are intersted.

It’s okay. Nobody’s a bad person here. I apologize for jumping to conclusions. I apologize for my misunderstandings as well.

I wouldn’t.
And I agree with Crista and but, it is a very disturbing photo. Both animal and human wise. It is a very scary world out there.
The picture was meant to be a joke! It’s clearly photoshoped!
