Dr. Phil spoke to Entertainment Tonight in an interview airing tonight.
On his recent visit with Britney:
“I want to make it very clear that I went to see Britney at the request of her family. That was private and it will stay private. I’ve been working with this family behind the scenes for a long time, longer than you can imagine. We decided to pay her a visit in the hospital. Getting into Cedars-Sinai is like getting into Fort Knox. I was met at the elevator by a family member then we all left at the same time, because she had been discharged.”
On tabloid criticism surrounding his association with Britney:
“They are waiting for her next melt down. They want to criticize me for trying to help her? Get real. She needs less publicity, not more!”
On his message to Britney:
“You can make this okay. Your family loves you. You may not always agree with what they say, with what they do but they’ve loved you when you weren’t lovable. Turn to the people that love you and listen. You have two children and you are the one in this world to protect them. There is no sacrifice that Lynne won’t make for you and there is no sacrifice that your father won’t make. They are the people that want nothing from you, and everything for you.”

Dr. Phil is a smart man, but he did lose his license to practice over an ethical issues, and here he goes again.
As a friend of the family, it is not ethical for him to treat Britney, and that also makes it questionable to have her on his show because that can be considered a form of treatment. Now I understand that he wants her on the show to convince her to get help, but he doesn’t need to put her on the show to do that. Her family called him in? Great, but that didn’t give him the righht to go into her room without an invitation. I sincerely hope he did not have video cameras on him either. This isn’t about criticising anyone, this is about retaining a certain amount of dignity as a man who practices a field of study that people already mistrust and disrespect. This is the very behaviour that makes people afriad to seek treatment.
On the other hand, it is now reported that he had to pull the plug on the show because Jamie got upset with him. Dr. Phil is saying it’s “too intense.” Thta’s quite a statement. But the fact that Dr. Phil is admitting she has a huge problem, when before he’s just covered her parent’s arses is interesting, and means that things indeed have gone for the worse. I’d like to believe that he wants to help her, but it looks more like he retained “respect” and friendship with these people so that he could one day get ratings from a woman that amateur pschology buffs knew was in trouble years aggo, and as a formerly licensed psychologist with access to the family should darn well have known there was a problem with her before now!
You what’s sad, peoples need to criticise her even now. No-one has yet on this thread but it’s certain we’ll read a few “SUCK IT”’s and “crazy selfish slob” comments soon. Can people not see how bad it is that criticism isn’t gonna help anyone? She has lost everything. She hasn’t lost her “looks” necassarily because she just needs to train in a gym again to look how she did before, and start eating just healthily. She’s lost that glow in her face, her smile used to bright up the tv screen, and now it just reminds people she doesn’t anymore. She lost her babies, her husband (even though he wasn’t great), her mother and father, her little sister has her own troubles, her big brother brian has shown no interest for her even though he owes everything he has to Britney. All she has is a pap who is using her, some older guy called sam no1 knows his relationship with her, and her little dog london. She’s lost all her confidence and to a certain degree her mind. Calling her names is nothing, there is no need, no gain. If it pleases you to, look at her and think to yourself how bad she looks or how desperate her life looks. Your hate affects others too.
The hate didn’t cause this. It can’t make it better, but it didn’t cause this. But just remember, it was you who not long ago, disagreed with people like me who talked about how she was apparently in trouble because of the glow that was gone from her face. She has more serious problems than be out of shape, and her looks. One of the key things that psychologists look for is whether or not the person os too sick to care for their health, and BRitney has been that sick for a long time now.
I never disagreed that there was nothing wrong with her. I never disagreed that she lost that glow and that confidence she had. I just refused to criticise her for it. It’s the way you deal with things that defines you. Some people on here coughmikegcough deal with Britney’s situation by criticising every mistake she makes and then loving it when she makes another one coz they got more fuel. Some ignore it, and some deny it, some excuse it and some just rationalise it. I like to defend people when they are down or hated. I guess there’s so much diversity that there has to be a balance. For every true hater there will be a true fan. and then there are just people in the middle that shift their opinions according to what happens everyday. I just don’t think it’s any type of disorder, just a general lack of control sparking built up emotions. She realised that almost everyone around her wanted something from her, and she rebelled. Like the song she wrote called rebellion. And remember that big poem she wrote with pictures of her flipping of the camera? In my opinion if people left her alone for a few months, and the people who love her, whoever they are, stay with her then she could start getting better. She makes stupid decisions, thinks with her heart and not her head. It’s funny coz she probably feels so alone, but there are millions of fans out there that would literaly do anything to help Britney sort herself out, without any personal gain. Infact there are millions more ordinary people who neither hate or love, just care, that would help her. She probably doesn’t get a chance to see that. I think visiting one of these forums would help her lol. Not this one though…
I completely agree with you, at least from what I understood in your comment. The first few sentences are a bit confusing. Sorry. Anyway, I think Dr. Phil is right here, even if he really shouldn’t be attempting to treat her. She needs to see a professional who is not tied into all this, one way or another. She deserves her privacy and an objective observer. At this point, we have pretty much seen her at her worse, we really don’t need to see anymore. She really should find her privacy far far away from here and those who would expose her at any cost. She deserves that, even if its a bit of work to achieve. I just really hope she can move past all this. I want happy Britney back. After all she is as close to an American princess we have.

People started hating her the moment her fans and peeps tried to cram her down our throats and make us believe that someone with limited talent is better than all other singers before and since. The moment her fans insisted that she is the end all be all of what it means to be female. And the moment that the fans closed around her like she was the leader of some new cult, and anyone who doesn’t like her most be considered fat, ugly, poor and healous. Were it not for those things, the hatred level would have been much lower. For example, Courtney Love is what she is, and her fans don’t try to make her something she isn’t. No one has ever tried to call her more goddess like than Mariyn Monroe, more outrageous than Madonna, and a better singer than any other singer on this earth. That is why, as hated as Courtney is, the level of so called hatred directed toward her is no where near what it is with Britney.

Me too. I kind of looked at her wonky when she started dressing crazy and sleeping with other people’s boyfriends. There was even a moment where I thought she was a decent mother before the whole driving with her son in her lap to “protect”him. When she had JJ and she started going out every night like she didn’t have a care in the world is when I really started to dislike her. Now, I just think she is a horrible, selfish little brat. Tough love is never what Britney needed. Love, support, guidance, proof that people cared is what she did need! She is lost & lonely w/ no where to turn. If you look at the video where no paps are near her and she can do what she wants over the weekend, she looks happy, calm, and most of all pretty normal and average.
