Hollywood.com reports Britney Spears threatened to commit suicide in front of her two children during her three-hour standoff with emergency services at her Beverly Hills mansion, it has been revealed.
The troubled pop star dramatically refused to hand over her sons to ex-husband Kevin Federline following a scheduled visit on Thursday night, when she reportedly locked herself and 1-year-old Jayden James in a bathroom. Her court-appointed monitor called 911 after witnessing Spears’ apparent mental breakdown.
During the deadlock, Spears sobbed hysterically and screamed at police to get out of her house–or face having her dead body on their hands.
One of the first emergency officers to have arrived on the scene told how Spears shouted, “Get out of here. Leave me and my babies alone. Get out or I’m going to kill myself. I’ll do it. I’ll do it.”
Spears then demanded to speak to Federline in person, but when her request was refused by his lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan, she again vowed to end her own life.
A source tells British newspaper the Sunday Mirror, “Britney told Kaplan she wanted to ’sort this out with Kevin face-to-face.’ Kaplan said ‘no’ and she started raising her voice and pacing up and down. She told him: ‘Tell him to stop pushing me. Tell him to stop making me feel like I’m not part of my own family. He doesn’t want to have to tell his children he killed their mother.‘”
According to various tabloid reports, Federline added to the panic when he remembered Spears kept two guns in the house–one of which was a present he gave to the star during their short-lived marriage.
And in a last-ditch attempt to keep hold of her sons Jayden and Sean Preston, Spears called Federline and offered to pay the dancer $100 million in return for full custody of the boys, reports the News of the World.
Another insider adds, “Britney said that Kevin could have an incredible $100 million if he’d give her the kids and never see them again. He’s used to Britney going off on one, but he knew from her voice that this was a whole other thing entirely. He hung up straight away and called his legal team in a panic.
“He told them that Britney was capable of anything and admitted that she still kept two handguns at the house … The lawyers called the police immediately.”
Spears was later admitted to Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for a mental evaluation, where she remained until Saturday afternoon, when she checked herself out to return home with her father, Jamie.
Following the headline-grabbing incident, Spears’ visitation rights to see her sons were temporarily suspended and Federline was awarded “sole legal custody and sole physical custody” of the kids at an emergency hearing on Friday. The custody order lasts until Jan. 14.

Only because the “legit” news agencies turn up their noses at this type of story, but the sad fact of the matter is that we have about three hours of time that Britney and the police haven’t made public and a large majority of tabloid stories about BRitney are proven true. A few months ago they denied that she was mentally ill and now her peeps want us to believe she is mentally ill so we don’t condemn her as a drug user. A few months ago her sister was reprted pregnant by one of those “dhameful” tabloids, and then it was proven true by mommy dearest selling the story to another tabloid.
I think in some (certainly not all) cases suicide is an act of aggression, not desperation. Like when they leave a note blaming someone else for the deed and wants them to feel guilty about it. Case in point, what britney said (but luckily didn’t take it that far):

Look at the lyrics of her self-penned song, “Mona Lisa.” Look at the drownin scene in her video Everytime which was reported to be about suicide, and then denied, but then accepted by the public as a suicide scene. And then look at how Justin Timberlake put a Britney clone in What Goes Around Comes Around into an almost identical drowning scene. She is suicidal and her peeeps have known this for years.

TMZ is starting to write about people who have been trying to hide Britney’s mental condition, and they’re some of the biggest haters around. Number one, I don’t think that she’s a spoiled brat- she really is this sick, and it’s a hard thing to watch. This is what mental illness looks like and I have firsthand knowledge. She’s textbook bipolar. Hate her or not, it is extremely difficult to watch someone in this mental state. You want to blame them, but they’re trapped in their own sick minds. That said, she is 100% not safe to be around. Her sons cannot be witness to this. Number two is that TMZ is saying that there are people who have known about this. Who has? And for how long? Did Larry Rudolph know? Did RUBEN know? If someone or several people knew about this and didn’t tell anyone, they endangered Britney’s kids along with her. Being mentally ill is NOT an excuse- it’s an explanation. You can’t expect someone this sick to make the same decisions and have the same normal thoughts as people who don’t have mental illness. This does NOT mean she should have her kids unsupervised or at all during this state. She shouldn’t be driving, either. Surely there is some law to force her hand and stabilize her because she is definitely headed toward suicide or some other grandiose gesture that will make total sense to her sick mind. Watching her as she decided on Kevin Federline, you could literally see her mania. This is the backlash to it. She is a serious danger to herself and possibly others.

I haven’t known any bipolar people but I have been around a number of celebrities and know how their privileged upbringing and sense of entitlement can shape (and really warp) their minds and behavior. You see it your way based on your experiences with bipolar people, I see it through the prism of my experiences with celebs. It looks like we both agree britney shouldn’t be anywhere near the kids right now and that she really needs treatment (probably both medical and psychological).

As far as people knowing and not saying anything, stars generally get what they want as the gravy train keeps rolling. Sometimes it’s pure greed, sometimes it’s seen as a consolation prize for not having a normal life, or that by virtue of their work and talent they’ve earned a place among the adults and “elite”. There’s also the “They can sort it out once the ride is over” and the “We can get him/her under control before it gets too bad” mentality. Of course, britney either banished all those people or they quit on her.

Given the number of people she once had around her, and if she is indeed sick and not just a spoiled brat, someone would know. britney has reached a point that if she really is bipolar, they can speak out about it now and not jeopardize their career or be criticized by their peers by stopping her gravy train. I’m not the biggest Dr. Phil fan BUT he did say that Britney really needed medical and psychological treatment.
I respect your opinion as well, and who knows, I could be wrong. A lot of her actions remind me of my special ed students. One of my closest friends whom I grew up with had a mother like this. Beautiful, loving woman when she was well; when she wasn’t, it was terrifying and dangerous. In her early years, she had amazing promise and even attended the Sorbonne- then one day, she just dropped out, came home and decided to marry a homeless alcoholic. No joke. They had my friend’s oldest sibling and one day, during a horrible episode, the mother got on a train to a southern state and signed papers giving her up for adoption. Getting the sibling back took nearly a year of legal wrangling and proof of the mother’s mental state. She has spent her life in and out of institutions, on different meds, and so on. Her early promise was destroyed. So while it could be a PR spin, I would *guess* no. I think they covered up for years and now have no choice but to let it out. The thing is, while I feel sympathy for her plight and understand to an extent, I do NOT think she is in ANY state to be around children or behind the wheel of a car or (sorry) even out in public. I remember writing this ages ago, and everyone here midunderstood: if she suddenly stops acting weird and acts like the “old” Britney, I bet people will be thrilled and they won’t understand that it isn’t real. It’s just the mania making a return and it’s the more palatable side of mental illness. The other, and seemingly more likely possibility, is going out like Anna Nicole (who shouldn’t have had kids either). I feel sorry for her, but I feel horrible for her sons. Even with some Godlike intervention in which she is treated and medicated, this is ongoing. It’s not an illness that can be cured.
Oh, for heaven’s sake. Did they know? Did they tell anyone? How would you know if they did? Do you think because you didn’t read it in the tabloids that they weren’t talking to someone?
Review the laws regarding mental illness. Read about heartbreaking cases in this country where families of people with mental illness have to struggle between whats best for their loved on and what’s legal. It happens all the time to people you never read about in the tabs.
Britney’s a grown adult. She’s entitled to make her own decisions about seeking care. Neither Larry Rudolph nor anyone else is a medical professional who can diagnose a problem - all anyone could do was urge her to get some care, they can’t compel a grown adult with legal rights to do something she doesn’t want to. The 5150 law is the first step in having someone hospitalized against her will, and when medical professionals deem she’s no longer a threat they HAVE to release if she wants to be released.
You think it should be different? Look back to earlier years when people were committed against their will, and come back and tell us what you think. Read about Frances Farmer - her case is comparable, except for the fact that she was smarter and had more talent that Britney.

Ruben may not have known that Britney’s problem was bipolar, but he did know she had a problem and he noticed that years ago. He went from being her biggest supported to becoming known for his out-spoken, no wholes barred, manner in critiquing Britney’s behaviur to be indicative of a problem. That is why Britney’s fans hate him. Finally, he had to let go of his youthful fascination for her and admit to the public that he believed she was badly in need of help and that he could no longer condone her actions. His honesty about her, years before closing that sight, earned him my respect.
Jenn, welcome to America where the mental insitutions were closed a couple decades ago and the former patients make up the drug addicted homeless people who live on the side of the road. There is very little that can be done legally to someone who is mentally ill, until they are determined a danger to themselves and society…and even then, it is an uphill battle to keep them hospitalized where they can be treated. This system was set in to place to protect people like your special ed students who would have been institionalized for life a couple decades for minor physical and mental impairments.
trust me, i am well aware of what happens to the mentally ill. i step over them outside my building every single morning. my friend’s mother recently refused to take her meds and they couldn’t make her, no matter how sick she got. my friend is nine months pregnant and the stress was unbelievable. the system is not set up to do anything except cover their own butts- it is supposedly about the mentally ill population’s freedom, but it’s a crock. the right to harm oneself and destroy your life? that’s just cruel. in a manic/depressive state, they are not able to decide what’s right. and it doesn’t protect my students, either. many have parents who are allowed to decide they won’t sign for medication, no matter how bad the kids get (attacking others, self destructive behavior, inability to stay in the classroom, etc). i have a severely autistic kid who was for some asinine reason placed in my emotionally disturbed classroom and is being traumatized daily. his mother refuses to admit the autism and won’t sign him into appropriate placement. they’re allowed to act out because their problems dictate so until they are put into a juvenile detention because no one has the right to force them into special ed. this country is pathetic in terms of understanding the mentally ill and giving them proper consideration. as for britney, she will burn every bridge (she is currently hiding with that idiot photographer) because she is unstable and being allowed to run wild. thank god her poor kids are too little to understand. TMZ has reported that there are people who knew that Britney was seriously mentally ill. Did Larry Rudolph know? Did Ruben? Someone seriously endangered the lives of her two sons. not necessarily. They would have needed a warrant to search the house. They were there to respond to a domestic call, if they didn’t see a gun displayed on the coffe table, they did not have the authority to search for one.
i doubt this statement because her saying she was going to kill herself would have been all they needed to hold her longer than 24 hours or whatever. i’m not sure why they let her go in the first place, because she definitely is not a well person. as for the guns, i’m sure we would have heard about or seen them by now. whatever happened, those poor boys should be taken away from her for good or until she seeks the medical and psychological help she desperately needs.

They said they didn’t know she had a gun, not that she didn’t have a gun. And since they did not have a warrant to search the house, unless the gun was left out in the open, then they have no idea if she does or does not have a gun. She could have hundreds in a room locked somewhere, and they wouldn’t know because they did not search her house. The police can only speak on what they know. KFed reportedly was afraid for Britney safety from the stalkerratzi and several years ago it was reported that he was learning how to shoot and/or teaching BRitney to shoot a gun while they were married. If she has a gun, he would be the one to know it. The report says he told a friend, but the firend may have only assumed he told the police. The police may not have known.
