I am having quite some laughs watching the premonition and its accompanying trainwreck unfold, as Britney Spears has been pushed off the #1 spot she held on the Billboard chart for a few hours as officials managed to share data with Wal-Mart who distributed the new Eagles album which sold a whooping 700,000 copies alongside “Blackout”.
Britney fansites have been “celebrating” and calling Britney’s album a “success” and a “chart topper” since last week claiming her invincibility in the charts, even though she sold 60,000 copies under industry projections. Now, it has all come to a hilarious new low.
Britney Spears fansite BreatheHeavy.com has made an update that says “FUCK YOU BILLBOARD” and posting the E-mail addresses of the three top executives at Billboard, in hopes that the Britney fan community can E-mail away in hopes they’ll put Britney at #1 again. Storm the Bastille!
I guess they missed the part where she wasn’t even the top selling album?
Britney’s latest studio album was set to become the 5th #1 debut in a row, after all of her previous albums have debuted at #1. Time has shown nevertheless that Britney’s antics and the public perception of it has indeed clearly affected her sales, despite the belief that as long as the music is good, it should be all good.

Just like you fans…. Like I said numerous times below…I wonder just how many people out there HONESTLY only bought ONE copy of the disc. To me, it’s not about how many albums you sell, but how many people will WANT to see you live should you tour. ANYONE can sell a million copies when their fans are rabid and chaotic (pun absolutely intended). Seriously, even if everyone bought just 2 copies, that puts her at about 140,000 people actually caring enough to go buy it. And we all know there were people who bought 3, or 4, or 10 (Chris Crocker….5 for himself, 5 to pass out to the homeless…) Do the mental math….I’m guessing there’s only around 100,000 people out there who REALLY cared enough to run out and buy it. Again, we’ll see just where she lands NEXT week. With some artists, first week sales are impressive…then there are those, like Britney, when it’s REALLY the second week sales that are more telling. Can she keep up the momentum WITHOUT those same people running out to spend their money THIS week to KEEP her there?
For instance….160,000 tickets sold in under two hours for one city…that’s impressive. But how many of us are going more than one night? (Yes, I’m talking about Garth Brooks and his nine night stint here in Kansas City….) I’ve already been…was there Monday night…and I’m going Saturday and Sunday night too because who the hell knows when I’ll get another chance to see him. But people are in town from all over the WORLD to see him here… Can Britney draw that? Doubtful!!!
I do agree that she’ll almost definately drop off next week, but neither Billboard nor her label care who buys what or how many albums. It’s just numbers. I wonder what tour sales would be like for her…. obviously not what they once were, but they’d still sell I’m sure… not that we’re going to find out anytime soon…..

I think it’s just pretty funny how Jive’s little tactic of moving Blackout’s release date up so she would not have heavy competition BACKFIRED BIG TIME! They did not see this sudden change on the charts coming at all. I think she had better chance against Celine Dion (or not?). Yes, they’re posting these Billboard addresses and spewing lots of profanity and venom over on perezhilton.com. Honestly, it’s kinda funny . . . in a very pathetic sort of way. I used those posted e-mail addresses to send a “thank you” to the folks at Billboard. OK, so the timing IS a bit odd. But griping about it really does nothing to change the fact that The Eagles LEGITIMATELY outsold BritBrit by a greater than 2-to-1 margin - and that’s WITHOUT the benefit of iTunes and a host of other franchises hawking the discs. Not everything that happens to Spears is the result of a personal vendetta. The numbers speak for themselves. The Eagles are a band with an incredible legacy. They’ve been around a LOT longer than Ms. Spears, they produce incredible music, and as individuals they are truly the talented creative force behind the work they produce (the same cannot be said for Spears). They also haven’t been sabotaging themselves in public for the past several years. This move is not an attack on Spears (though her most diehard fans clearly perceive it as such). It IS a legitimate effort to give proper credit where it’s due. The Eagles DO have the #1 album in America (Brit has achieved a respectable #2) - they’ve outsold Britney fair and square. Those are the facts. Evidently, however, some folks would rather rant and swear and insist on a lie (”Britney’s album is #1″) than accept the truth.
What I find MOST entertaining is that they’re doing this after, apparently, according to what I have read and how I understand it, AFTER they went out and bought 2, 3, 4 or more discs to make the totals come out higher. Their efforts failed because REAL people with GOOD taste went out and bought a GOOD album that will most certainly be up for awards in February!!!!
Really? How many times are you going to post this ridiculous idea that all Britney fans rushed out and bought 3 or 4 seperate copies of her CD? Yes, Chris Crocker may have done this to get some more attention at the release of her album sales, but how many people do you really think would do this? It really seems to eat people alive to think that Britney can still have a chart topping album with even without a manager, publicist, or promotions.
People are now reporting that the Eagles album was sold at other retailers and that smaller record stores bought copies of the 11.99 double disk and resold it for higher prices in areas that do not have Walmarts such as LA and NY. This could have also caused numbers to be messed up or counted twice.
Obviously there are rumors about both records. But a fact remains, Billboard changed their policy the night that the results were supposed to come out this week, no warning. This was after everyone including Billboard.com had posted that Britney had the #1 album in the country.
I am guessing someone from the Billboard company just “came into” a lot of Wal-Mart stock this week.
You can go search the blogs…I’ve seen them. The fans promised each other that they would buy multiple copies. They begged each other, they mandated to each other, and they debated on whether or not each album needed to be on a separate receipt.
But this is nothing new. It’s the same old same old for a bunch of cult like fans who tell each other how to request songs on radio stations that aren’t even in their own country, demand that they each vote constantly on any internet poll, or awards show, and who put together this lame revolt.
Bottom line is right now Britney’s sitting at #41 while the Eagles are at #5. It’s as simple as that.

Bottom line, however they handle their own politics, Britney did not outsell them, so technically she shouldn’t get the #1 album…….i think it’s messed up how they changed their policy, but honestly Britney isn’t even interested in the album…..AT ALL…..she just chuckled…when Ryan asked her any questions. I think that Britney should do a sit down interview with Oprah or either Ellen or somebody and give her side of anything…….i don’t think she cares either way…….i guess if she was out of money then she would care, but based on this record…..it doesn’t look like she will be out of money anytime soon.
Carrie, you’re spot-on re: the money. Frankly, I think it’s a major factor contributing to her problems. Thanks to residuals from past albums, her perfumes, and current sales, she doesn’t have to do any work to have the money roll in. There’s a LOT of it. She sacrificed her education for her career, and the fallout from that choice is obvious virtually every time she opens her mouth and/or steps out in public. She’s got too much money, too many temptations, too many enablers, and too much time on her hands, and she’s not a child anymore. People have been asking where her family (esp. her mother) is and why they don’t intervene. The simple answer to that question is that they can’t - not unless Britney is willing to let them. Britney is an adult, well past the age where the law requires her to submit to parental authority. She can have her own family members arrested for trespassing, harassment, etc. if she decides they’re bothering her too much and has evidence of their attempts at contact to prove it. Her money has the potential to shield her from “reality” (as the rest of us experience it) for a very, very long time, and I don’t see her “waking up” anytime soon. Let’s face it - if the virtual loss of your own dear children isn’t enough to get you to clean up your act, then there’s precious little anyone else can do. :(

The problem is that their sales WERE NOT going to be submitted for inclusion to the Billboard Top 200. They knew it FULL WELL and were WILLING to have an album which was an EXCLUSIVE that did not get counted! Fair enough they changed their mind… But ON THE DAY the sales figures were released? Seems a bit fishy to me and doesn’t seem AT ALL fair! They hardly gave any notice! With some artists, 500,000 or more in the first week is impressive, cause they do it every time they release an album…Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, and there are countless others who every time they do it, DO IT!! They bring it EVERY time. Then there are those who 250,000 first week is impressive. Then there are those who 250,000 first week is pretty much IT. They drastically drop off in numbers in the weeks that follow the release cause NO ONE else is buying it. I think Britney fits into that category right now. How this kid reacted is disturbing and NOT mentally stable or mature in the slightest. . . There’s being a fan and then there’s building your life’s existence around celebrities instead of getting out and creating YOUR OWN “legacy” in the world.

Exactly. There is something really RIDICULOUS about a teenager who cries out for the heads of BILLBOARD and HITS DAILY DOUBLE. This kid needs his keyboard taken away from him and told to go outside and play for a while. Brit never promoted anything on this album. She got was she deserved. Her fans need to accept that they do this for free without an ounce of thanks from this whore.

The Eagles are music is waaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy better then Britney’s, and they have been aroud forever. I love the Eagles, and I am happy that they can have a hit after 27 years without new music, that is awesome. Britney was still #2, what is the big deal? I guess her fans just want her at #1 no matter what. But bitchin and moaning isn’t going to help at all. I think it is totally fair that Billboard changed the way they find out who is really #1, becasue they need to keep up with today’s ways that music sells. It couldn’t have been just for Britney, she isn’t that important!
you can not even compare the eagles to britney.They have been succesfully selling records for 30 years. They are a staple in the music industry. They shower and take care of there children. See the difference. Oh oh and they sell albums. In a day or so another album will drop and brit will continue to drop down the charts. Just like her her underwear the album lacks.LOL i crack myself up.
Did you know one of the eagles daughters is one of Britney’s best friends who she went halloweening with? I doubt there is any bad blood. Britney and the eagles are seperate beings. Britney appeals to a vertical audience and eagles a horizontal audience, total opposites who are icons of their times, whether you me or the general public likes it or not.

She’s one of Britney’s flavors of the week….they’re not BEST FRIENDS by any stretch of the imagination. I think she’s gonna be one of those in and out people.

I don’t get this blog. Ruben keeps insisting he’s over Britney, but still the majority of posts are about Britney, or Carolina’s two bit fashion commentary, and the one he finally bothers to post is to prove whatever point he has about Britney. So much for covering new ground.
Why can’t you cover artists other than Britney? Tori Amos gave arguably the most controversial show of her career last night in Chicago, yet there’s no mention of it. There is more to entertainment then hair extensions, trips to Starbucks and whatever parenting fiasco. Perhaps if you laid off the Brit-Brit and focused on some other topic, this blog may become more then the sad never ending tirade it initially set out to dissociate itself from.
I wonder if they didn’t change the rule at the last minute because of the fact that the Eagles sold almost 3/4 of a million copies, damn near three times as many as the nearest album on the chart… I don’t think it’s a conspiracy, but what’s fair is fair, and what’s right is right….and the Eagles SHOULD be number one after selling THAT many albums. And they should HOLD onto number one next week, and maybe for weeks to come because they’re doing some heavy promotion, like the CMA’s tonight… (GO KENNY C!!! Get the entertainer award….)
