From the new album ‘Blackout’ due in stores November 13th. You can download it on iTunes now, or wait till it premieres on TRL on Monday. The video is nothing spectacular, it’s decent but nothing like the magic of Antique Britney videos. Keep your expectations low and you should be fine!
Meanwhile, Jive releasesd a statement to Us Magazine earlier today where they pretty much pulled out all of their gold marketing tools.
Jive is enormously excited about Britney’s new album, and we’re confident that it will secure her reputation as one of the great recording artists of her time. As Britney’s label, it’s not our place to comment on her personal issues, but we do care about her and support her. There’s no question that when performers attain the level of celebrity that Britney has, they tend to be treated by the press and public as if they were cartoon or soap-opera characters, and we forget that they’re actually human beings. People say that’s the trade-off you make for success in the entertainment industry – that if you want to make it big, you have to surrender your privacy or the ability to lead a normal life. But sometimes you make that bargain before you realize what it entails. Britney’s a grown woman who makes her own choices, and we respect that. But she faces challenges that most of us can’t really imagine.
I just Watched ‘Gimmie More’ from Itunes so here’s my initial review:
I can honestly say she looks GOOD! REAL GOOD! Haters are gonna hate on, but seriously she aint looking bad. In the beginning I think we (the audience) get a glimpse of “old britney” Blonde hair, giggly and timid at the bar. Then enters, ugh, shall we say an “alternative” Brit. Tattoo’d, Raven Haired, Stipper Brit. Most of the video is this Britney, doing her thang. I believe there is an amout of effort shown, but for my standards I think she can bring better!
Now… I CAN be honest… she did the “choreography” herself and if you’re wanting “Slave” or even “Overprotected” it aint there. This just aint it. I’m tempted to not even use the word, but well I guess any movement put with 8 counts is considered such. But this, this is her, her hips and that pole! And she’s just rocking out to the song. It’s not a detailed video, but it fits the song. It visually different for her and basically it’s a new start.
Personally, I think we can only expect for her to get better and better! (professionally)
I CAN however say it’s a HUGE and I do mean HUGE step up from the VMA’s!!!!! She shows emotion and she’s laughing and into it. Whatever so called “breakdown” happen on that set is NOT visible at all! It’s very Britney, and you know what I mean if you followed her career over time. Cute smiles, hair tossing and butt bouncing and all the signature Brit like moves.
Overall I give this video a B -
Fans can criticize me for my honesty but I don’t care. This could have been better, it SHOULD have been better. (in my opinion)
BUT.
I honestly see she TRIED. There’s effort and she did this on her own. From an artist standpoint, I don’t think thats easy. And shit, it’s just not a bad video. I like it, I do. I just have a higher standard that I expect from her (professionally), but if you liked ‘Do Something’ and ‘My Perogative’ I think you’ll like it. It has that kinda feel.

We disagree, v. dior. I don’t think she tried at all. Britney’s had simple videos before. Look at Baby One More Time. That was a simple video but it was a fun video. This is definitely a simple video and it looks like it cost 30 bucks (if that much) to shoot it. It’s not fun. It’s a boring video. But I respect your opinion. Just stating my opinion here.
No, She did. Baby One More Time is a simple video, but Britney was not the mastermind behind it. You will see countless interviews where SHE states that was her handlers and the record company who thought up that look and whole idea, esp with the school girl look. So, if you look at the video’s over time and take a video such as ‘Do Something’ that Britney has entire control over, you will see the similiarites and thefore see the reference I was making.
If it’s your opinion the video is boring, no one can argue with that. But don’t be confused that she’s been making decisions from the start of her career, which is what Baby One More Time is.
Hmm, I just read a book about Britney and it says something else. Hold on and I’ll type it up for ya. The book is called “Britney Spears’ Heart to Heart” and it’s written by Britney and Lynne. This is located on page 109.
Having supporting players in your life doesn’t make you a weaker person. In fact, it builds up your confidence so you can be stronger and more independent. I see this in Britney; she’s bolder and much more self-assured because she knows we’re behind her. She called me when they told her what they were envisioning for her first video. They wanted “…Baby One More Time” to be a cartoonish space-rangers kind of thing. She said, “Mama, if I do that, I’m gonna look like such a fool!” So I told her to speak up, say what she thought the video should be about. She did just that, and Nigel Dicks, the director, thought it was brilliant. Brit suggested a group of kids waiting impatiently for the school bell to ring–and the rest is history (not to mention a great video).
I remember reading awhile back she was the one responsible for the outfits she wore in the BOMT video. I guess it’s a case of different stories being passed through the ringer. You’ve heard Britney saying that her handlers were responsible for the idea of the whole BOMT video and this book credits Britney with the idea.

I totally remember that episode! And Roseanne takes Jackie to a Bingo game and Roseanne has all of these lighters in front of her and she tells Jackie to take a lighter for good luck. Jackie grabs the yellow lighter and Roseanne has a hissy fit and tells her to get another lighter. I’m a big fan of the show. First four seasons are the best imo. Can’t stand the last season when the Conners won the lottery.

I put down for it at the library a few months ago and it came back the other day. It’s sort of a breezy book if you ever change your mind about wanting to read it. I read the whole thing within a couple of hours.
Maybe I’ll check it out. It’s hard to want to, because you never know what real and what’s just more fabrication put out there in different forms for us to see.

The beginning was really good, but then it was just the same shot over and over again with her dancing beside the pole. Not very creative all the way through. But the unfocused and refocusing of the camera in rhythm with the beat is awesome. Such a good idea. Britney seems way more confident here. I can tell she’s in her element.

Amateur cinematography, editing, the short clips, constant “slow mo” scenes are complete evidence of a poor video that was edited to SHIT and produced…nothing.

And that’s what I don’t get. Okay, this was Britney’s idea. This video was planned and funded by her. Why go with a stripper pole idea if you know you can’t do it? But I guess that’s the problem on the larger scale, eh? I still stand by the fact that I loved Britney’s music. But a lot of fans cared for the music and the hot image. You know why it was so jumpy…jumping from one shot to the next…only stopping for a couple of seconds on each shot on her…so that you can’t see just how badly she looks. And what does that leave us with? The song is charting and doing a good job on the charts. Everything else is bombing left and right.

No, she doesn’t mean an actual funeral. It was supposed to be a scene in the video, v. dior. Remember the little black dress she had on and I think she was wearing a black hat with a black veil on the hat? Go back about 15 or maybe 20 pages and you can possibly find the funeral scene concept.
I know the concept, maybe those were the deleted and re-edited scenes…
maybe thats why she’s on the pole for so long, because whatever other direction the video was going to go got editied out so they made that part longer.
