Who Sang It Best?

leonaandkatharine.jpg

Both of these astonishing singers have done covers of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”. For those of you who don’t know Leona Lewis, she was the winner of the X-Factor in England and is currently working on her debut album with Simon Cowell and Clive Davis.

And then there’s Katharine McPhee, which I assume everyone knows from American Idol 5.

Question is, who do you think sang the song best?

Katherine McPhee…although Leona has a nice voice and she sang it well, it was a bit boring compared to Kat’s version.

I remember when I first heard Katherine sang it and I got chills…didnt do that when I listend to Leona’s.

I liked Katharine McPhee’s version better but I love Leona’s voice a lot better.

Impossible to compare these two singers as they have such different styles.
I myself prefer Leona’s version. As Simon Cowell said,
“The single best performance i have ever witnessed”.

I’ve heard Katharine McPhee sing this song before, so I was going to instantly say that I like her rendition more. However, Katharine sang this song twice on “American Idol” and this is probably the first time she sang it, because I know that it’s definitely not the second time. She sang it beautifully in her final performance. The one in the Audio MP3 here is just okay.
But even better than Katharine McPhee and Leona Lewis’ renditions is Julienne Irwin’s rendition. She was in the finals of “America’s Got Talent.” I hope she gets a recording contract, because she has a strong, beautiful voice.

On second listen, I think that I made a mistake; this is the version that I think Katharine sang it best. (I guess I wasn’t listening well the first time.)

Leona Lewis can really belt it out, but Katharine’s version is so beautiful it brings tears to my eyes. They both are talented singers, but I believe Katharine McPhee has a better voice.

Both beautiful renditions, but I prefer Katharine’s version. She’s owned that song since Idol.

I’ve heard Katharine sing the song so many times, but its different with each performance. She is a fantastic artist with a beautiful voice. Leona has a nice voice but I’m getting bored with all of the belters. I prefer Katharine’s sultry, jazzy version of the song.

Katharine sang the song exactly as it is written to sung.
Leona has a great voice, but with CliveandSimon pulling
the strings, they made sure that Leona’s version of
the Classic was stretched out, more High pitches,
to replace the bone chilling feeling that Kat’s
version emulates. As soon as David Foster takes over
Katharine’s flight, she will turn the industry upside
down

Leona’s version is a badly-sung rendition of the classic Eva Cassidy version of this song. Too bad anyone who’s heard Eva’s voice cringes at Leona’s attempts. Katherine’s cribs from both Billie Holiday’s version and Eva Cassidy’s. She’s not nearly as good as her influences either, but at least she puts her own ‘country-ish’ twang on the song, whereas Leona sings as if by rote.
