Our mothers smoked while holding us in her arms, rode bikes and skateboards without helmets or pads, played outside ALL DAY, with our parents not worrying about if we would be abducted, and walked to the bus stop alone too. Smoking + children is not illegal in all cities but there are a few where it is absolutley illegal to smoke in a car with a child. It has also become relevant in custody cases in recent years. If one parent does not smoke and one does it can and has been used successfully in getting custody. It does not matter what moms did years ago there is medical evidence to prove that it can hurt a child and has been successfully used to tip the scale in who gets custody. Of course if both parents smoke then neither parent will try to use this issue. Why would any responsible parent ignore such medical evidence and advice. It’s not 100% guaranteed that secondhand smoke will cause a health problem but it sure as can and does in many instances. Gambling with your child’s health = not only selfishness but also abuse.
