The Bird’s got the Sentinel DualTrak Snap-On Transmitter
The authorities will keep track of Big Bird using traditional radio frequency, which consists of an ankle bracelet and home monitoring base unit. The unit monitors the absence or presence of the bracelet’s specific radio frequency (RF) beacon, then transmits that signal over phone lines to a host system, which can be monitored by state agencies.
The bracelets weigh between 4 and 6 ounces. “You shower with it on, you do everything with it on,” says Hook. Though not permanently attached the body—some defendants have cut them off—the bracelets transmit an alarm when tampered with. Remove your bracelet, says Hook, and you’re likely headed back to jail.
Hilton’s bracelet has a range of 3000 to 4000 sq. ft. and allows for up to 30 minutes outside, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Whitmore. That range is more than enough to encompass Hilton’s 2700-sq.-ft. home in Hollywood Hills—and possibly even her swimming pool.
