PEOPLE REVIEWS ANAHEIM CONCERT - MAY 2nd 2007
Before a raucous crowd that chanted her name, Britney Spears continued her comeback mini-tour Wednesday night, performing the same lip-synched routine of older hits from her show the night before.
Security was tighter in Anaheim – it took the crowd nearly two hours to get through the metal detectors – with guards seizing cell phones in an apparent reaction to the flood of pictures and videos of the San Diego show on the Internet.
At 9:30 p.m., after the vast majority of the crowd had made it past security, the chants of “Britney! Britney!” started, with one girl exhorting the crowd with shouts of, “She’s got to feel the love!”
A few minutes later, the lights dimmed on the stage, empty save for a single white chair. The crowd exploded into screams and applause as the four backup dancers appeared, two on each side, snaking their way across the stage. As the first strains of “… Baby One More Time” became recognizable, Spears emerged in a brown wig, white go-go boots, a white mini-skirt and a sparkling pink bikini top.
Like the San Diego show, the set was a short medley of Spears’s hits, with “I’m a Slave 4 U” following “Hit Me” and the crowd showering the pop star with shouts of approval each time she wiggled her hips. (Notably, she was also able to chew gum while performing.)
The lights dimmed after the second song, going a soft red, with the back-up dancers exiting the stage and leaving Britney alone to strut slowly to the lone chair as “Breathe On Me” started. The crowd roared as she seductively gyrated on the chair before her dancers returned and pulled a male fan from the audience to be serenaded by Spears.
A brief interlude allowed Spears to change into a tiny denim skirt, a plain pink bra and a short, white fur coat. Her “Do Something” routine included some air guitar, a lot of the hands-on-hips hip thrusts and a brief homage to the running man dance move.
Spears dropped her fur coat to the floor for the final song, “Toxic,” and smiled as she mouthed the words. The crowd once again roared its approval when she and her dancers dropped to all fours and crawled in formation down the stage. Spears then popped up to her knees and posed with her dancers around her as the song and the lights came to a simultaneous and abrupt end.
As the lights came back up and the crowd showered her with adoration, she blew kisses with both hands and said, “Thank you so much. These are my dancers,” before skipping offstage, leaving her four backups to soak up the applause.
Audience members gave the show positive reviews overall – one female fan told PEOPLE of the set: “It was short, it was good. She looked good, she did her thing.” But Kelly Weston of Orange County said, “She was a little off, a little slower than her dancers. If I hadn’t heard about last night I would probably be disappointed.” Still, her fans were in the house to support Spears: One group of young women wore matching pink tank tops reading “Bald Ambition” on the front and “The Comeback 2007″ on the back.

Chewing gum. WOW. Isn’t that a big fuck you to fans. Can’t even bother PRETENDING to sing. Sad. They also said she acting like she was snorting coke during TOXIC and if you watch the video footage - IT SURE THE FUCK LOOKS LIKE IT. They all put their fingers to their nose at I need a HIT baby Give me it. DISGUSTING. We know your a COKE HEAD but damn - ADVERTISING IT?/
Sure, she stepped up the dancing from the other night, but only to sacrifice the ability to lip-synch. Lip-synching is a cop-out, but when you can’t even do that any more, then why bother having lyrics at all? I sure hope someone in that crowd knew CPR just in case she choked on that gum. Add that to the long list of risky behaviours on this chic’s resume. What the heck is her problem that she needs to constantly being chewing on gum anyway? Why was her gum more important than the abilty to sing live?
She claims that she lost all that pregnancy weight from “danicng” in the gym, and other high impact sports. Why the hell is the proof of that if she can’t even dance on sage for 15 minutes? What has she been practicing for long hours, day in and day out, if she can not sing her old sings, while dancing through a remix of her old dance movements. She supposedly taught her dancers herrself, and even they were better than her!
And there you go: “These are my dancers.”
That’s proof right there, that there was no group called M&M’s.
It’s funny that you keep telling us not to believe the tabloid rumours about Britney, and yet most of the rumours about her end up true. You know that’s true, otherwise you would not have shelled out up to $500 for a band you had never heard of. You knew Britney was going to be there, because you KNOW that most of the tabloid rumurs about Britney ARE TRUE.
Whether you like it or not the group definatley went by the name “The M + M’s”. And please don’t tell me you believe everything that’s written about people in tabloids, especially Britney. You never have proof of any of the things they say she does, yet you still say that because most of it is true you believe it all. What rumour (apart from the performance because that was confirmed by The house of Blues) has ever been proven true. What is the world coming to when America’s youths are so naive, this tabloid culture has to stop!
She said she was a virgin, she said she easn’t living with Justin, she said she didn’t smoke or drink under age, she said she had a happy childhood, she said that she never used drugs, and on and on and on…and all have been proven true with photographic evidence, or from Britney’s mouth herself retracting things she had said in the past. The performance was NEVER confirmed by the HOB to be Britney until AFTER the performance. And yet all her fans showed up expecting to see her. If Britney wants to call herself M&M like before she tried to call herself Mona Lisa, that is her business, but regradless of the name…it was a Britney Spears concert. Get over yourself, and quit trying to rewrite history. It only makes you just as much a liar as she is, because the proof is there for everyone to see.

i think this shows are just little warm up shows, to get to back into the swing of things, so the chewing of gum etc isnt really a huge deal, she’s just practacing at small venues

The only thing that is just pathetic about Britney is that she lip synchs, and there are actually poeple out there defending it!!! C’mon now, she calls herself a singer, but she’s no singer. Great dancer, GREAT entertainer (onstage and off), but she can’t carry a tune in a bucket. Lip synching is a disgrace to the fans, herself, and the whole music industry. Anyone can get up on stage, dress provactivly, dance around, and mouth the words to a song.

Give the girl a break. She’s trying. This has been the first time in nearly 3 years since she’s performed for crowds–naturally, she isn’t going to be spot on. Her hair is going to be long soon, she looks great and she’s starting to get in the groove again. Britney Spears is a pop superstar; remember, these were supposed to be surprise, “secret” performances so they weren’t supposed to be hour and a half long concerts. And in response to accusations that Spears has been using backing tracks during her latest performances, when is that news? Britney has always used a backing track to some effect increasingly over the years, so what’s the surprise now? Grow up. Unless you’re a superstar, you can’t be biased because you’re not her. Britney Spears is trying her best, and the world is eating it up.
