The family of the late Richard Jeni has released a statement concerning the comedian’s death, confirming that Jeni “did take his own life,” and revealing that he had earlier been diagnosed with “severe clinical depression coupled with bouts of psychotic paranoia.”The “Platypus Man” star died last Saturday in Los Angeles.
The family’s statement, released on Tuesday, reads:
“Often times, when we are faced with a sudden and tragic loss, there is a natural curiosity — a need to know what exactly happened. The family of Richard Jeni would like to put to rest any assumptions as to the cause of Richard’s death. Despite the fact that the coroner’s office has publicly stated that a suicide ruling will take two weeks, pending the results of an autopsy, Richard Jeni did take his own life.”

Once or twice per month I played Jeni’s HBO Special to cheer me up while I was recovering from medical problems.
I’ll miss his humor for the rest of my life!
