The Vatican Will Launch Its Own Entertainment Network

vatican01.jpg
Shocker. Days after Pope Benedict XVI criticized the media for its “destructive” influence, the Vatican on Monday announced plans to launch its first television network by the end of the year.H2O will broadcast news and original entertainment programming worldwide in seven languages, according to a statement. Additional details were sketchy.Over the years, the Vatican has been quick to adopt new technologies in its efforts to communicate with the world’s more than 1 billion Catholics.

Ehh….sorry, won’t be adding this to my DirectTV lineup. Religions are biased and censor whatever they feel does not fit their agenda. I’ll stick to HBO and Showtime.

“Religions are biased and censor whatever they feel does not fit their agenda.”

-So other media doesn’t have their own agenda? Only religious ones? Really you think that they would put some type of show that would degrade your mind or disrespect women like HBO or Showtime? The Vatican has an agenda, an open one. I would be more worried about HBO and Showtimes agendas to just get your to watch more TV than that of the Vatican who’s agenda is to improve your outlook on life.

You need to be more open and not so single-minded on your ideaology.

No, The Vatican, as in, The Catholic Church, together with all the other religions in the world, doesn’t allow you to make up your own conclusions based on everything being out in the open. They rather censor something without you having to see it and them risk you being swayed the other way. If the Pope just criticized the media for their negative impact, he’s contradicting himself. HBO and Showtime does not censor violence and gore (which was my main point), not to mention, sex scenes as well. The Vatican will censor all of this because there is absolutely no liberalism in their thoughts. So, they are the ones that are choosing for you. Don’t agree with that.

The Vatican doesn´t really choose for you because if you´re a Catholic you wouldn´t want to go watch violent shows, for example. And if you do, you´re definitely not gonna expect them to show that. It might sound weird to say this but I´d think of their channel as a… mm… thematic channel, like we have cooking or travel channels for those who like to cook or go around the world, so why not having a Catholic channel for those who think being Catholic is important?

And every channel has an agenda, all media do. It´s unrealistic to expect for any channel to show something that doesn´t fit with their opinions, that´s why you have to be smart and watch more than one channel and learn to read between the lines. But I´m sure you already know that (and I´m not being sarcastic, just in case you might think I am).

BTW, I´m not Catholic. I´m just trying to make a point in here. If channels have the freedom to broadcast whatever they want, and we have the freedom to watch as we choose, I don´t think there should be any problem in here.

Oh, just so you know, the “reply” button doesn´t show anywhere using IE here, I had to switch to Firefox.
