Taylor Hicks Has Officially Been Recycled by America

Sucks going from “current” to “former”.

The Associated Press reports that “American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks needs his Soul Patrol to step up.

They were certainly there for him around this time last year, when he was building up a feverish fan base, named the “Soul Patrol.” The things about him that irked Simon Cowell — that mop of gray hair and the herky-jerky dance moves that conjured up images of dorky dads loose at a wedding reception — were instead embraced by millions, who later handed him the “Idol” title over the likes of talented hotties Katharine McPhee and Chris Daughtry. So far, not so good — well, not Carrie Underwood “good.”

His self-titled, post-”Idol” album, released in December, debuted at No. 2 on the charts. While it has sold a respectable 640,000 copies, it has slid significantly to a dismal rank: 136 this week.

In case you haven’t noticed, American Idol is all about recycling these artists as fast as humanly possible. Winning American Idol is a curse….and we’ve seen this with the past seasons. You are basically a winner for 15 minutes. Winners never end up selling more albums than the runner up (with the exception of Kelly Clarkson) because America loves the underdog, i.e Jennifer Hudson, Katherine McPhee, etc….

America’s attention span has become so punitive, that people tend to change their minds about who they actually root for when it’s already too late!

Ummm, actually, not only has Kelly Clarkson sold the more that the runner-up, but so has Fantasia and Carrie. Really, Clay is the only one that is the expection to the rule. Katharine McPhee’s album just came out, so we don’t know how well it will do yet. Taylor’s album started off well too. I enjoy thew site and, for the most part, your comments, but please make sure they’re accurate. It’s becoming frustrating to see unaccurate information on the site.

Yeah Dont forget Carrie Underwood…she has the biggest selling debut of any of the AI Winners or Losers. Kelly’s Breakaway is the biggest Seller but winning a curse…no way…Carrie proved that!

kelly and carrie are both marketable and are making radio friendly music! they are the only ones that seem to know what they are doing! same thing with chris daughtry!

theres a big difference between powervoting over and over, and forking cash for a CD. its more than obvious that chris daughtry had the bigger fanbase even if they didnt powervote over and over. at the end, Daughtry won, i find that ironic. american idol’s faulty voting system has been exposed.

(Uh, how about that’s “inaccurate”)
No double negatives, either.

I believe the holier-than-thou, grammitically incorrect poster above meant to say:

I mean, if YOU ARE (or you’re; NOT “your”) gonna nitpick . . .
