An Open Letter to Mark Steven Johnson (Writer and Director of Ghost Rider)
Mr. Johnson,
What the hell were you thinking? Who taught you how to write? How on earth was this script greenlit in the first place? What’s up with your crappy cuts? Who was the nut that still hired you following your failures with Elektra and Daredevil?
Ghost Rider cost $120 million to make, enough money to buy a small country in Africa and this is all you could deliver? It was full of crappy dialogue, cheesy scenes, and special effects not in par with 2007. I could not understand a single word that came out of Sam Elliot’s mouth. I must ask you, are you such a big fan of his “movie trailer voice” that you couldn’t direct him to sound a little clearer? Trust me, I’m a huge fan of The Big Lebowski, and he delivered quite the intro monologue there.
Either way, what bothers me the most, and this is something that I will never forgive you for, is how you have successfully managed to taint my perception of great actors such as Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes, who successfully showed the world how great actors perform without great directing. After observing my friend fall asleep next to me and seeing myself cringe more than 13 times at some of your selection of shots, angles and dialogue delivery, we walked out after having thrown away $11 dollars each. In fact, I was so pissed, I had to share my thoughts with some of the staff of the Arclight Cinemas. From now on, please refrain from ever directing Marvel comics again, and stick to your classic feel good movies such as “Simon Birch” and “Grumpy Old Men”.
Please, I beg you.
Thank you very much, and good luck with your future endeavors.

P.S.: Have your PA call the offices of Christopher Nolan, he might be able to give you a few tips and tricks !

I can’t believe this movie has only came out now. It was shot 3 years ago in Melbourne, Australia. That might explain why the effects aren’t up to the 2007 standerd.
Is it that bad?
And it’s still the most watched movie in America?
That’s wierd.
I’m not planning on seeing it anyhow, problably wait for the DVD.
I agree, it was terrible. I had to fight from falling asleep, and thats just because I refuse to fall asleep in a movie that I payed $9.00 to see.
harsh.. but it doesnt look that good.. havent seen it yet.
The movie only cost 78 Million and most of that went to the effects. Add on the marketing and you get closer to the actual figure of 110 million.
It was only completed a short time before it opened because the effects were so difficult and the cost of the effects was most of the cost in the film.
Nic is not a great actor so whatever, but really slagging Sam Elliot? He was the best actor in the film with the dialogue he had.
Sorry you didn’t enjoy it but perhaps you should at least have your facts straight …
I would agree to lots of you guys up here who saw the movie and feel they have seen the worst movie of their life.
I believe Nicholas Cage was just wasted big time in this movie, being a good actor, ok not so good but still I think I have never laughed so much on even a comedy movie than I did on this one.
Overall rating : -50 out of 10 ..
Mr. Robert Churhill, I can understand your reaction towards the Sam Elliot thing, as he was indeed the best actor in the film. What Ruben G. was trying to say though was that he didn’t like the way his voice was presented in the film. Very low piched and scruffy, indeed, it was pretty difficult to understand. Elliots fault? Hardly. MSJ could’ve done something about it as it is his film.
If I may add, even Ghost Rider’s voice was a disaster. Just as difficult to understand. The creators said that it was Nic Cages’ voice dubbed over three different animal growls. A perfect example of being overly creative at the cost of practicality.
